My daughter was 26. I'll give you a minute to do the math. 😂
In November 2025, I had a baby.
I was 45 years old.
My daughter was 26.
Life apparently wasn't finished surprising me.
Starting Again
By 45, I had already lived what felt like several lives.
I had raised a daughter. Built a career. Made money. Lost things. Been terribly sick. Fallen in love. Gotten married. Been run over by a car while pregnant - which still sounds made up when I type it.
And then someone handed me a newborn.
There is something extraordinary about beginning again when the world assumes you should already know how your story goes.
A Whole New Life
This baby did not return me to an earlier chapter.
He opened an entirely new one.
Suddenly the future was not abstract. There were first steps ahead. First words. Birthdays. Christmas mornings. Muddy shoes. Bedtime stories. A little person who would grow up inside the life my husband and I were building.
Maybe that's why I keep saying it.
We have our whole lives ahead of us.
Not because we're young enough to believe nothing bad will happen.
Because we've lived enough to know that beautiful things can happen after you thought the important parts of your story were already behind you.
I thought I was starting over.
I was just getting started.
We Have Our Whole Lives Ahead of Us.
