Let Go. Let God.

Let Go. Let God.

The past is your last breath. Let it go.

Did you just breathe?

Of course you did. You probably did not notice it until I asked.

Genesis 2:7 describes God breathing the breath of life into man. Job 33:4 says, “the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” Breath is so ordinary that we barely notice it, yet it is with us from the beginning of life to the end.

Your Last Breath

Take a breath in.

Now let it out.

That breath is already gone. You cannot pull it back and live it again.

I love that as a picture of letting go: the past is your last breath.

The argument. The disappointment. The expectation that did not happen. The thing you wish you had said differently. The worry you have replayed twenty times.

Breathe it out.

Make Room for Goodness

Letting go does not mean pretending pain never happened, ignoring responsibilities or refusing to deal with something that needs attention.

It means refusing to carry yesterday in every breath God gives you today.

Replace the endless replay with gratitude. Find something good in front of you: the blue sky, a child's laugh, a warm house, a beautiful tree, the fact that you are here and breathing right now.

Give God what you cannot carry well. Let go. Get God.

God-Breathed

2 Timothy 3:16 describes Scripture as God-breathed. I love the connection: the God who gives life also gives us His Word to teach, correct and guide us.

John 20:22 gives us another beautiful image when Jesus breathes on His disciples and says, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

Again and again, breath becomes a picture of life, Spirit and something received from God rather than manufactured by us.

The Great Exchange

So when the day feels heavy, use something you are already doing as your reminder.

Breathe in.

Thank God for something.

Breathe out.

Release something you do not need to keep rehearsing.

Then take the next breath.

You do not have to solve your entire life in that moment. You are simply turning your attention from what you cannot change toward the God you trust.

Let go. Let God. Breathe.

Consume His goodness.
