You don't have to become somebody else to be worthy of love.

Our brand values are Love & Goodness. Those words sound simple. Living them is not.

For me, Goodness grew from a question: What am I allowing into my life - and what is it producing in me?

What we repeatedly watch, hear, say, eat, believe, buy and surround ourselves with can shape our habits and our attention. Good in. Good out.

Not perfection. Direction.

Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

Galatians 5:14 says, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

I spent a long time thinking mostly about the first half: Love your neighbor.

But there are two little words at the end that matter too: ...as yourself.

That doesn't mean worship yourself. It doesn't mean believe you're better than anyone else. And it certainly doesn't require turning yourself into somebody else's idea of beautiful, successful or acceptable.

For me, loving myself began with understanding that I am loved by God.

What Love Looks Like

1 Corinthians 13 gives us a demanding picture of love: patient, kind, not boastful, not self-seeking, not delighting in wrongdoing, and persevering.

That kind of love is more than a mood.

It can include tenderness and encouragement. It can also include truth, boundaries, forgiveness, patience and choosing not to keep feeding resentment.

Jesus joined "love of God" and "love of neighbor" at the center of His teaching. I want that idea at the center of this brand, too.

As Yourself

You were not created to spend your life auditioning to become somebody else.

Not the woman in an advertisement. Not the person on your social feed. Not the person somebody once told you that you should be.

Your appearance will change. Your body will change. Your circumstances will change. Other people's opinions will definitely change.

Your worth does not have to change with them. You just need to love yourself, as yourself - and everything else falls into place.

Consuming Goodness

Consuming Goodness is the larger philosophy behind Heidi Callender® brands.

It is paying attention to what you consume through your eyes, ears, mouth, mind and everyday environment - and choosing more of what produces something good.

Maybe that means turning off the noise for a while. Saying something kind instead of repeating gossip. Eating food that makes you feel cared for. Going outside. Reading Scripture. Praying. Choosing relationships where love is demonstrated rather than merely promised.

Maybe it also means owning fewer things and choosing them better.

Less Clutter. More Intention.

That idea eventually shaped our products.

I don't want to convince you that you need a bathroom counter covered with bottles in order to care for yourself.

I would rather make thoughtful, multi-use products that earn their place.

You can want softer skin without hating a wrinkle.

You can enjoy beautiful hair without fearing gray.

You can buy something luxurious because it makes an ordinary day feel lovely.

And then you can get on with living.

What's Consuming You?

That's the question underneath it all.

What gets your attention?
What gets your time?
What gets repeated until it becomes part of the way you think?
What are you carrying that you might be ready to put down?
And where is the goodness you could choose instead?

Find one thing to be grateful for. Say one kind thing. Read one verse. Step outside. Pray for somebody. Call someone you love - I call my mom (pictured).

Goodness is often much less complicated than we make it.
