Tame that beard

Tame that beard

From wild + scratchy to soft + smooth.

Hey guys. Whether you're growing your first beard or have been rocking facial hair forever, sooner or later you may find yourself asking:

  • Why does my beard feel dry or itchy?
  • Are those beard flakes on my shirt?
  • Why does my beard oil make me feel greasy?
  • How do I make this thing softer?

The good news: beard care does not need its own crowded shelf of products.

Don't Forget the Skin Under the Beard

A beard may cover your skin, but it does not make the skin underneath disappear. Dry-feeling skin, flakes and irritation can make even a great beard uncomfortable.

Start with simple cleansing. Wash away everyday dirt, sweat and excess oil without treating your face like a shop floor. Our Cleanser works for face, body and hands, making it an easy option for washing both the beard area and the skin underneath.

If itching, flaking, redness or irritation is persistent or severe, do not assume it is simply a dry beard. Skin conditions can occur beneath facial hair too, so persistent problems are worth discussing with a health professional.

Then: A Little Oil

This is where Hair + Beard Oil earns its place.

The Heidi Hair by Heidi Callender® Hair + Beard Oil is a lightweight, concentrated oil for hair, beard and scalp. It helps soften coarse-feeling beard hair, smooth flyaways and condition the dry-feeling skin underneath without a heavy, greasy finish.

After showering, start with one pump. Rub it between your fingertips or palms, then work it through the beard and into the skin beneath it. Add more only if you need it — this is concentrated, and a little goes a long way.

And yes, the people who get close enough to encounter your beard will probably appreciate the softer version. The snugglers in your life do not need to meet a Brillo pad. 😆

Hair • Beard • Scalp

One of the reasons we renamed it "Hair + Beard Oil" is simple: it was never just useful only for the hair on your head.

Work a small amount through wet or dry head hair to soften coarse texture and smooth flyaways. Massage it through a beard and into the skin beneath. Or use a small amount directly on dry-feeling areas of the scalp.

One bottle. More than one job. That is very much the Heidi Callender® way of doing things.

Cold Air, Wind + Beards

Cold, dry weather and wind can leave exposed skin and hair feeling especially dry. A beard gives part of the face some physical coverage, but it does not eliminate the need to care for the skin underneath it.

If your beard feels rougher in winter, keep the routine uncomplicated: cleanse gently, avoid over-washing, and use a small amount of Hair + Beard Oil to condition the hair and dry-feeling skin beneath it.

For skiing, golfing, working outside or simply surviving a Midwest winter, simple and consistent usually beats an elaborate ten-product beard ritual.

For the Man Who Has a Beard Routine — and the Man Who Doesn't

Maybe you have a beautifully manicured beard and know exactly where every whisker belongs. Or maybe you forget you have a beard until it starts itching.

Either way, you do not necessarily need a countertop full of beard products.

Clean it. Condition it. Tame the flyaways. Go live your life.

Caveman beard, hipster beard, Playoff beard, carefully sculpted masterpiece or whatever motivates you to grow your face foliage — put your best bearded face forward.

For now: tame the beard. 😆
